TELL US ABOUT YOUR STUDENTS.

Our team of educators knows that every class is full of students each with their own story, with their own interest, and their own connection to reading. And we know a lot about what students like to read, but no one knows your students like you do. Please use the prompts and example comments below to paint a picture of your students.

This is your space to share student insights, ask us for book recommendations, request titles/authors, and address individual and classroom needs. Please include ANY special requests you have. If information about students needs updating, simply submit another request.

”Jonathan (picture book reader) loves space. Alex (early reader) wants to be a basketball player. Shana likes art. I have 4 girls who love princesses. Imani’s dad just passed away, and she is struggling. Thomas’ family moves around a lot; this is his 2nd school this year. My class loves Mo Willems, and I have 3 readers who are ready for middle school level books. Do you have any book series recommendations for Diamond to read to her sister in pre-K?”

“My kids need books about their hair!”

“My readers want to see themselves in their books! They want to see their grandparents, their parents, their aunties, their friends. I read HAIR LOVE last week, and they wanted more like that. Other interests include: dinosaurs (Trevor and Nick), dance (Chanel), maps (Brandon), animals (Arianne, Unique, Vanessa), superheroes (David, Carlos).

”My students do best with picture books right now. But I do have a couple who are showing interest in chapter books. Maybe early readers? I’d like to have options for them to push themselves and engage with books that may be slightly higher than where they are.”

”Jasmine is a strong reader. She reads middle grade fiction. She recently read WONDER.  She’s also a fan of graphic novels. She likes SMILE and GUTS. Do you have any other series you’d recommend for her or other strong 3rd grade readers?”

”One of my kids has been particularly difficult to engage lately. He likes legos and video games.”

”Two students (Kayla and Maliya) would do well if they could choose the same book. It would need to be a lower level chapter book or early reader. Jaylin, Aiden and Mariah all read at a 3rd grade level.”
