Doing more with nbc
Every K-5 student will have 6 new NBC books by the end of the program. But developing Reader Identities goes beyond books themselves. We need teacher support to take the NBC experience further. Teacher partnerships are key in leveraging NBC resources and deepening positive connections around reading.
student Feedback Bookmarks (in the books)
Student Voice: Each week students return completed bookmarks to their teacher. This is a space for students to give feedback on their books. Do they give them a thumbs up/down? Would they recommend it? Why/why not? Student responses help us curate a collection students are EXCITED to read! Remind students to return their bookmarks.
I Love Reading Cards (in the books)
Student Connection: We know the value that comes from kids connecting with each other. In addition to having characters and experiences our readers can identify with, each NBC book includes a message from another K-5th grade reader in Nashville. Ask students, “What does your I LOVE READING Card say?”
Make-Your-Own Reader ID Card Center (in the classroom)
Reader Identity: Students create their own Reader ID Cards to wear at the Book Carts. Card templates & essential questions remain in the classroom so students can add to their growing Reader Identities as desired.
